POLIMI School of Management Awarded at TEMSCON Global 2025
From 4 to 7 August 2025, the international conference TEMSCON Global, organised by the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS), took place in San Diego, California. TEMSCON Global is a worldwide reference point for research and practice in technology management, leadership, and innovation, bringing together academics, practitioners, and thought leaders from across the globe.
In this prestigious setting, the POLIMI School of Management was recognised for its cutting-edge research in supply chain innovation.
The paper “Mitigating Demand Fluctuations in Long Supply Chains Through Dataspaces”, authored by Francesco Alessandro Cuzzola, researcher at the POLIMI School of Management, Marco Taisch and Walter Quadrini, received the prestigious Best Paper Award.
Focus of the paper: the bullwhip effect
The paper was developed as part of the MAASive project, which investigates new paradigms for manufacturing and supply chain resilience.
The awarded research addresses the bullwhip effect, a well-known phenomenon where small demand fluctuations at the consumer level lead to amplified oscillations throughout the supply chain, resulting in inefficiencies and instability.
Using a simplified linear simulator, the study compared two scenarios:
Limited transparency: where supply chain partners only had partial information.
Full transparency: enabled by dataspace technologies, which allow for real-time, secure data sharing across partners.
The results clearly demonstrated that dataspace-enabled transparency significantly reduces both demand amplification and inventory fluctuations, offering a powerful tool for mitigating risks in long and complex supply chains.
Furthermore, the research showed how combining dataspace technologies with Demand Driven MRP (DDMRP) principles can effectively stabilise supply chain operations, making them more resilient to external shocks.
A Step Forward in Global Innovation Leadership
This international recognition highlights once again the POLIMI School of Management’s leading role in advancing knowledge at the intersection of technology, innovation, and management.
It underscores our commitment to supporting businesses and industries worldwide in their transition towards more adaptive, data-driven, and resilient systems.
We warmly congratulate Francesco Alessandro Cuzzola, Marco Taisch, and Walter Quadrini for this outstanding achievement.
