The MAASive project sponsored the session “Manufacturing as a Service and the DATA/AI Backbone Challenge” at the European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) 2026 in Galway, Ireland, co-hosted with fellow Made in Europe initiatives M4ESTRO, ACCURATE, and NARRATE.

Moderated by Sergio Gusmeroli and Davide Dalle Carbonare from the BDVA Smart Manufacturing Industry Working Group, the session explored how Data and AI can support more resilient and adaptive manufacturing networks.

Discussions focused on three key areas: standardised manufacturing capabilities and intelligent matchmaking to unlock unused production capacity; sovereign data sharing and explainable AI to build trust; and Agentic AI to anticipate disruptions and support human decision-making.

The session also addressed the challenges of scaling Manufacturing as a Service across Europe, including shared governance, network participation, and accessible adoption pathways for SMEs.
