MAASive at HumanTech Day 2: advancing relient manufacturing
On January 23rd, 2025, Politecnico di Milano is hosting HumanTech Day 2, a major event that brings together 170 researchers for a series of seminars and workshops.
HumanTech – Humans and Technology – is a research initiative funded by Italy’s Ministry of University and Research (MUR), with the objective of redefining traditional models of technological development by integrating human, social, and environmental dimensions alongside economic factors. The project makes significant contributions to academic research, engages with policymakers, and partners with public and private organizations to ensure the wide dissemination and practical application of its findings.
The event focuses on three main research streams:
-
Human-centered digital technology development models and processes
-
Resilient and sustainable productions, logistics, and supply chain processes enabled by technologies
-
Digitally enabled, human-centered organizational models and work systems
The MAASive project is going to participate in the second research stream: "Resilient and sustainable production, logistics, and supply chain processes enabled by technologies".
Represented by Professor Margherita Pero and Mr. Lin Lin (https://www.dig.polimi.it/it), the team will lead the communication and dissemination efforts, presenting the project’s progress and engaging in knowledge exchange with other research leaders and professionals.
A central highlight of the presentation is MAASive’s focus on enhancing value network resilience through Manufacturing-as-a-Service (MaaS) — enabling manufacturers to rapidly respond to unforeseen disruptions or fluctuations in supply and demand. The project’s approach is operationalized through a comprehensive toolkit, structured around four core pillars:
-
Servitizing Manufacturing Resources – Optimizing the use of assets across networks of service providers and consumers.
-
Managing Disruptions – Equipping companies with advanced simulation tools to predict, absorb, and recover from disruptions.
-
Facilitating Connections – Strengthening collaboration by efficiently linking service providers with potential consumers.
-
Enhancing Value Chain Coordination – Enabling agile coordination within value networks to accelerate recovery and continuity.
Through its active involvement in HumanTech Day 2, MAASive is reinforcing its commitment to fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and innovation-driven European manufacturing sector — underlining the importance of MaaS as a strategic enabler of adaptable and sustainable industrial ecosystems.
